Privacy Policy

Last updated 4 August 2026 · Version 1.0

1. Who we are, and who we are not

Quotera (“we”, “us”) operates quotera.co.za. We are an independent marketing and lead-referral service.

We are not an insurer, and we are not a financial services provider. We do not give financial advice, we do not quote, and we do not sell policies. What we do is collect the details you choose to give us and pass them to a licensed provider who contacts you directly.

Quotes are provided by Homegrown Brokers, a registered Financial Services Provider (non-life), FSP No. 49048.

The responsible party for the information described here, as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), is [REGISTERED LEGAL ENTITY NAME, REGISTRATION NUMBER], trading as Quotera.

2. What we collect

Only what you type into the form, plus technical information your browser sends.

Information you give us

WhatWhyRequired?
Full nameSo the advisor knows who they are callingYes
Cell numberThe advisor calls you on it. This is the only channel that must workYes
Email addressTo send your quote in writing if you want itNo
Vehicle or property details: make, model, year, suburb, overnight parkingInsurers price on the specific item and where it is kept. Without these, any number quoted would be a guessYes
What you currently pay (a band, not an exact figure)To tell whether we can realistically beat itYes
Your consent choicesRecorded, with the exact wording you agreed to and a timestamp, so we can show what you agreed toYes

We do not ask for your ID number, and we do not store one. If an insurer needs it to finalise a policy, that happens later and directly with them, not through us.

Information collected automatically

3. Why we use it, and on what basis

We process your information because you consented when you ticked the box to submit the form (POPIA section 11(1)(a)), and because it is necessary to do the thing you asked us to do: get you an insurance quote (section 11(1)(b)).

We use it to:

If you also ticked the optional marketing box, we and our insurance partners may send you offers and money-saving tips by SMS or email. That box is genuinely optional. Leaving it unticked does not affect your quote, and you can withdraw it at any time, free of charge, using the contact details in section 10.

4. Who we share it with

Homegrown Brokers (the provider who quotes you)

Your name, cell number, email address and the details of the item you want insured are sent to Homegrown Brokers so that a licensed advisor can call you. They are a separate responsible party under POPIA and handle your information under their own privacy practices from that point.

If you started the form and gave a number but never pressed submit, we hold that partial record, but we do not send it to Homegrown Brokers. You did not ask to be called by an insurer, so you are not passed to one.

Service providers who process on our behalf

WhoWhat they doWhat they see
Google Cloud / FirebaseHosting, database, application logicEverything, as our processor. Lead data is stored in Google’s Johannesburg region
Google Analytics & Tag ManagerTraffic and funnel measurementTechnical and behavioural data. Not your name, number or email address
Microsoft ClaritySession recordings and heatmaps. See the warning belowTechnical and behavioural data, with text you type automatically masked

About Microsoft Clarity, stated plainly. Clarity records how visitors move through the page, and Microsoft uses that data for its own purposes as well as ours. Under data-protection law it acts as a controller in its own right, not merely as our processor.

Clarity masks the contents of input fields by default and this cannot be switched off, so it cannot capture your phone number or email address as you type them. We have additionally marked those fields for masking.

Where your information is kept

Lead information is stored in Google Cloud’s africa-south1 (Johannesburg) region and is processed there. Our analytics providers named above operate globally and may process technical and behavioural data outside South Africa, under the safeguards in their own terms.

We do not sell your information

We are paid a fixed fee per referred lead. We are not paid commission on any policy you buy, and we do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to anyone.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes set out in section 3, and no longer than the law allows or requires.

How that works in practice:

You do not have to wait for us. You can ask us to delete your information at any time using the contact details in section 10, and we will do so unless we are legally required to keep it. We will not ask you to justify the request.

If your quote is concluded, the provider keeps their own records under their own legal obligations, which are separate from ours.

6. Your rights under POPIA

You may, at any time and free of charge:

Use the contact details in section 10. We will respond within a reasonable period and in any event within the timeframes POPIA requires.

7. Calls and messages

A licensed advisor calls you about the quote you asked for. We aim to call within 15 minutes during business hours, and calls are made Monday to Friday, 8am–7pm, in line with applicable regulations.

If you do not want to be contacted again, tell the advisor on the call or contact us using section 11, and we will record that and stop.

8. Security

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach occurs that creates a real risk to you, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

9. Cookies and similar technologies

We use browser storage and cookies to keep your answers as you move between form steps, to recognise a returning visitor, to remember which advert brought you, and to measure how the form performs. Blocking them may stop the form working correctly.
